How Palworld Breeding Works

Breeding is the single most powerful system in Palworld. It lets you combine two Pals to hatch a third — often a rarer, stronger species you could never catch at your level — and, with patience, build "perfect" Pals with hand-picked passive skills. This guide walks through every step, from unlocking the Breeding Farm to stacking legendary passives across generations.

What is breeding in Palworld?

Breeding takes two parent Pals of opposite genders and produces an egg. When that egg hatches, you get a baby Pal whose species is decided by a fixed pairing table baked into the game. Because the child is not random, breeding is really a puzzle: which two Pals do you need to reach the Pal you want? That's exactly what our breeding calculator solves.

Step 1 — Unlock and build a Breeding Farm

The Breeding Farm unlocks in the Technology tree at level 19. Once unlocked, build it for 100× Wood, 20× Stone and 50× Fiber. Place it on flat ground at your base — it takes up a large footprint, so leave room. Only one farm is needed to start, but many late-game players run two or three in parallel to speed up multi-generation projects.

Step 2 — Assign one male and one female

Drop exactly one male and one female Pal into the farm. Gender does not change which baby you get (with the single exception of the Katress + Wixen pairings, which our calculator flags for you). The two parents do not have to be the same species — mixing species is the whole point, because two different Pals average out to a third species on the breeding table.

Step 3 — Bake and stock Cake

Pals will only breed while there is a Cake in the farm's feed box. Each egg consumes one Cake, so you'll want a steady supply. The Cake recipe is:

• 5× Flour (mill Wheat at a Mill)
• 8× Red Berries (grow at a Berry Plantation)
• 7× Milk (from Mozzarina on a Ranch)
• 8× Eggs (from Chikipi on a Ranch)
• 2× Honey (from Beegarde on a Ranch)

Step 4 — Incubate the egg

Collect the egg from the farm and place it in an Egg Incubator. Each egg has a preferred temperature; matching it (with Heater or Cooler devices nearby) dramatically cuts hatch time. Larger, rarer eggs take longer. Our egg & incubation guide covers temperature tuning and hatch-speed tricks.

Step 5 — The breeding formula, explained

Every Pal has a hidden Breeding Power (sometimes called "combi rank"). To find a child, the game roughly averages the two parents' Breeding Power values and picks the Pal closest to that number — with a long list of special-case pairings layered on top. Because those hand-set exceptions are so numerous, naive "just average it" calculators are wrong roughly half the time. That's why this site skips the formula entirely and reads the exact datamined pairing table instead, so every result matches the game 1:1.

Step 6 — Passive skill inheritance (building a perfect Pal)

This is where breeding gets deep. A baby inherits up to 4 passive skills, drawn from the combined pool of both parents' passives, plus a small chance of rolling a brand-new random passive. To engineer a perfect Pal:

1. Decide which passives you want — e.g. Legend, Musclehead (Attack), Ferocious (Attack), and Lucky.
2. Catch or breed parents that already carry some of those passives.
3. Breed, keep the baby that inherited the most desired passives, and pair it back in.
4. Repeat across several generations, slowly stacking all four target passives onto one Pal.

Step 7 — Unique combos and catch-only Pals

Some Pals have exactly one special recipe — for example Relaxaurus Lux only comes from Relaxaurus + Sparkit. Browse them all in the combos database. On the other end, top legendaries like Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus and Paladius cannot be bred from other species at all — you must catch them in the wild first, then breed two of the same for extras.
