Palworld Breeding for Beginners

New to breeding? It looks complicated, but the core loop is simple, and a little planning early saves hours later. Here's a beginner roadmap from your very first egg to breeding top-tier Pals.
Step 1 — Get the farm running (level 19)
Reach level 19, unlock the Breeding Farm, and build it (100 Wood, 20 Stone, 50 Fiber). Set up a Ranch with Mozzarina (milk), Chikipi (eggs) and Beegarde (honey), plus a Berry Plantation and a Mill, so you can bake Cake on repeat — every egg needs one. Step 2 — Your first breeding project
Don't chase legendaries yet. A great first target is Anubis: it's one of the strongest Pals you can breed, an elite Handiwork and Mining worker, and it has hundreds of valid parent pairs, so the Find Parents tool will almost certainly show a recipe using Pals you already own.
Step 3 — Learn the tool, not the recipes
There are thousands of combinations — nobody memorises them. Instead:
- Want a specific Pal? Use Find Parents — it ranks every recipe easiest-first.
- Only have common Pals? Use Shortest Path — it charts the fewest breeding steps to your goal.
- Deciding between two Pals? Use the comparison tool.
Step 4 — Start thinking about passives
Once you're comfortable, the real depth is passive skills. When you catch Pals with good passives (Lucky, Ferocious, Swift), keep them — they become breeding stock. A baby inherits up to four passives from its parents, so you slowly stack the perfect set over several generations.
Step 5 — Progress to the good stuff
With a working farm and a passive-carrying breeding stock, you can aim higher: elemental variants like Relaxaurus Lux (see the best combos guide), strong mounts (the best mounts guide), and eventually breeding duplicates of caught legendaries. Legendaries like Jetragon can't be bred from other species — the legendary Pals guide lists which ones you must catch.
Common beginner mistakes
- Letting the Cake run out — breeding stops instantly. Automate it.
- Chasing legendaries too early — they're catch-only; build a base and passives first.
- Ignoring passives — a common Pal with great passives beats a rare Pal with bad ones.
